"Fantastic support and service!"

About: Peterborough City Hospital / Accident and emergency

A couple of days after a straightforward wisdom tooth removal (Hinchingbrooke Hospital Clinic) an infection grew and spread along my jaw and towards my throat. As I was taking regular pain relief, I only noticed once 3 extra chins appeared! On a Sunday, I visited an out of hours dentist (via 111 service), who sent me to Hinchingbrooke A&E (1 mile down the road) for strong IV antibiotics as she was concerned about my now-inability to swallow/talk. Because the Dentist's letter was addressed to "Maxillo Facial Department", Hinchingbrooke had trouble processing it (they don't have the department). I wasted 1.5 hours waiting there hoping the list of concerns from the dentist would outweigh the department confusion. Eventually, after calling 111 again from the A&E waiting room, their clinical advisor pushed us to go to Peterborough hospital ASAP. We discharged ourselves and my wife drove me. A horrible decision to make and an unpleasant journey to say the least. En route I called Maxillo Facial Department and spoke to a Doctor who helped a lot. Fairly quick registration at Peterborough A&E and from there, the service for the next 24 hours was amazing. Cannot fault it. Pain relief, antibiotics, fluids etc. Nice staff, day and night. On the Sunday afternoon/evening I went under general anaesthetic and had minor surgery to my neck to drain fluids (and chins). The nurse in Ward A2 was especially helpful and kind (whilst being super busy). Recovering well now. Once again, thanks again to all the staff in this Peterborough department, especially on a Sunday! So grateful.
