"Amazing treatment by all the staff"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery General practices in Forth Valley

(as the patient),

I attended the GP with an abscess on my thigh and cellulitis, he advised that I would need to be admitted to the surgical assessment unit for further investigation, at first I was going to go in on the Fri night but we all decided I should go in on Sat morning as I would just be going into the hospital to sleep and fast... I would prefer my own bed.

I attended the surgical assessment unit and straight away the staff were amazing; so happy and helpful. Anything that you asked them wasn't an issue.

The consultant came and reviewed me and said that I would need surgery done to clear out the wound and I would be able to go home later. The consultant made me feel at ease and trusted his opinion. I thought I would be waiting an infinity for this.

The amazing housekeeper helped me get access to the internet so I could keep in touch with my friends and family and she made me laugh, this was great as I was started to freak out about getting put to sleep.

Next thing I know 2 members of theatre staff came to get me. I wish I had remembered their names . They were possibly the best part of my whole experience they could see I was nervous but they made me feel so comfortable and at ease . The male member of theatre staff who was in the anesthetic room with me told me to hold his hand as they cannulated me and was giving me advice to what I should be doing next to help my other medical condition out. He gave me a tissue when I cried and he was so nice, he was the last face that I seen and remember and then boom I was out.

When I woke up their was a post op nurse who gave me amazing care and truly cared. He gave me a drink and some good pain relief as I was sore, then another staff member took over my care . She was brilliant we chatted and had a laugh.

I was then transferred to ward b31 where staff nurse Bernadette was looking after me. I love this nurse she is truly wonderful and caring .

My past experiences as a patient has always been slap dash and away the patient goes. As a nurse I've always said I would never want to be treated by anyone at the hospital.

But I can say as a nurse I've never been more proud of the fact that these people are my colleagues and peers . They didn't care that I looked like crap or cried, they didn't care that I asked questions or just wanted someone to talk to cause I was scared. They all helped and supported me .

To the staff at meadowbank health centre, the staff at the surgical assessment unit, theatre and b31. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for the AMAZING care that I received .

However they did lose my walking stick but I got a new one so all is forgiven.

Thank you very much for your kind words about the staff in Surgical Assessment Unit. I will pass this onto them. We wish you a speedy recovery.
