Called NHS 111 with a suspected peritonsillar abscess and fever with difficulty in swallowing and ear pain. Got a call back from gp and explained and was asked to come in and see a dr. I asked what time and he said just come down. I said so I have to sit and wait and he said no as I’ve written everything down. Sat in the waiting room for 45 mins to be called in by a nurse - not what I was expecting. I gave her the story (including how I had been misdiagnosed by a nurse at a walk in centre a few years before with similar symptoms). She looked at my throat and said I can’t give you antibiotics (hx repeating itself) that’s not even what I was there for. I asked her about the lump in my mouth to which she said I will put you on the list for the dr to see to let him examine - that’s what I thought was originally being done. Basically implied there was nothing wrong with me even though she didn’t even examine me properly, didn’t even take any basic observations and didn’t do a full gland or ENT examination or feel the lump in question.
I told them not to bother and I would be seen in a more reliable place. I’m now home with a fever, headache, difficulty in swallowing and the lump becoming more prominent, but of course there’s nothing wrong with me. Between this service and A&E in MK there is no good health provider
