"Ward 16 rehabilitation Unit"

My husband recently fell and broke his hip. He was transferred here to receive rehabilitation for his Partial Hip Replacement he had at the DMH. To say you are a Rehabilitation Unit !

I assumed he would under go an intensive programme of exercises and physio tailored to his individual needs, My husband also has other complex health issues that affect his chest and breathing. He has been here at BAGH for 2 weeks and is very unsteady on his feet as a rule anyway but he says he does not feel confident with his walker. I raised these concerns with his doctor on the ward and he said they would work with him to gain his confidence. I also told them the reason he fell at home was because his O2 sats were very low that he collapsed as a result of the low o2 and that hes been struggling since December 2017 . We discussed an echo cardiogram as Cor Pulmonarly had been mentioned. One was ordered but has not been carried out. My husband only has short bursts of physio and spends the rest of the time sat in his chair, some days 8 hours sat in the chair ! Over the bank holiday weekend he had 2 whole days of NO physio what so ever he went there for rehab but is getting very little.

There are also some very rude staff here on this ward and ive witnessed patients asking to go to the loo and been told to hang on as the teas are being served. Ive heard staff being very abrupt with an elderly patient whilst trying to get him into bed. My husband has been spoken to as though hes a child. Reading some of the testimonials on here its like I ve been to a totally different hospital. My husbands recovery will be slower because of his COPD and Emphysema but surely if hes not in a position with his breathing to do anything strenuous then why not something gentle like exercises laying on his bed? I just find them all congregating around the Nurses station talking about their own lives and social lives. My husband went 20 miles from his home to a hospital that promised him rehab, promised us he would not be allowed home until he was safe to do so and here he is being discharged Monday with very little done and an ongoing COPD exacerbation thats still not under control as for physio hes not getting much in my mind. Hes no where near ready. No one keeps you informed you have to go looking for someone every time you need to ask whats going on. My last issue is this "PROTECTED MEAL TIME" . It states that visiting on the ward is 2pm to 8pm. But its not its actually 2pm to 5pm then 6pm to 8 pm. This should be the visiting times to avoid the humility of being told to leave the ward at mealtimes. When you have travelled an hour or more on the bus and then after only 15 mins with your loved one you have to go and wait outside in the corridor for an hour this is unacceptable. Get the visiting times right then we will all know whats going on. I don,t object to being asked to leave I understand the PMT. I object to being ordered out by a Nurses Assistant in a rude manner. poor BAGH,
