What I liked
I went to A&E on advice of NHS direct because of chest pain. It turns out that the chest pain was a result of a severe panic attack and I was very apologetic about potentially wasting the time of the A&E unit at triage. However instead of being admonished for this they were most sympathetic and explained that this is quite a debilitating condition in its own right. I was put on a ECG just to make sure and was given a clean bill of health which immediately quelled the panic disorder. Thankfully the A&E department was very quiet at the time, I was assured I wasn't blocking any bed, and the person who saw me was reassuring. I felt embarassed about following advice of NHS direct to attend A&E but cannot thank the staff enough for not being annoyed with this. I am writing purely because of the level of empathy and respect that I had at this incident.
What could be improved
Perhaps more recognition of panic disorder - although this was largely the fault of NHS direct diagnosis.
Anything else?
Wexham Park hospital is not that well served by public transport.
"Excellent A&E"
