"Over an hour wait in x-ray delayed being seen in..."

About: Wrightington Hospital

What I liked

Having visited outpatients today with my dad, I found the staff to be courteous and polite at all times.

The WRVS provides excellent refreshments at reasonable prices.

What could be improved

Whilst I accept that clinics are busy, my dad waited over an hour in the x-ray department to have his examination. At no point was any explanation or apology given to the overflowing waiting room in x-ray as to how long patients would be waiting for their examination.

There were not enough seats for the patients and relatives, (many of the patients with joint/mobility problems)

Considering how long patients were waiting, there was no provision of refreshments in the x-ray department. (I don't suspect today was a one off!)

Whilst the carpet in x-ray was in good condition, there was little evidence of the overall decor being improved to make the environment pleasant for the long waiting patients.

There is one toilet for male and female patients in the waiting room; this is also positioned slap bang in the middle of the waiting room. Whilst there is a shield to improve privacy and dignity, it is far from ideal.

Anything else?

Additionally, as the parking is pay and display, if we had only paid for 2 hours parking (not unreasonable for an outpatient appointment) this would have added stress to the whole experience.

(Choices are for 1,2 4 or more hours, why not 3?)

Thanks very much for taking the time to post your opinion on the Patient Opinion website and for the positive comments you have made.

I was sorry to read of your dissatisfaction with your dad's experience at Wrightington Hospital and have passed this to the Musculoskeletal Division for their information and for them to look at the concerns you have raised.

However, if you wish to raise these more formally, please do not hesitate to contact me on 01942 773342.
