"Excellent service on the ward"

About: Frimley Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Frimley Park Hospital / General surgery Hampshire PCT

(as a relative),

My wife was admitted to A&E with abdominal pain. Despite a rather long wait after triage, she was admitted on a ward the same night and put under observation. Over the next five days, she had all kinds of tests done to her. Tests that would have cost us a fortune if we had to pay for them. Finally, she was operated on to drain an abscess. Again, post-op care was excellent, and she was discharged after three days with a battery of medication.

Two weeks later, she started having the same symptoms. I called an out-of-hours doctor who referred us immediately to A&E. The consultant who treated her initially recognised her name and had her admitted on ward immediately. After three days of observation, she had a slightly more invasive operation to clear the abscess completely. She is now recovering on ward. I'm grateful for the NHS because her case was taken very seriously and she is being given all the care she requires.
