The main entrance to the hospital is a disgrace. The entrance is occupied by smokers, despite the larger than life no-smoking signs, including patients on drips and with catheter bags. Even more disappointing is staff members who have escorted patients as far as the entrance so that they can smoke. Health education?
The floor is littered with cigarette ends as are the bins, and is a dirty, smelly introduction to a hospital which otherwise maintains good standards of cleanliness.
Smoking in public areas has been illegal for over 5 years, and smoking in healthcare settings, community and in-patient has been banned for all sorts of good reasons. There are fines for not complying with these laws.
I have respiratory problems, as do many other people entering to attend appointments.
The Trust has a responsibility to manage this issue, or at least take responsibility to keep the environment clean. It also has a responsibility to protect patients' health by making sure everything possible has been done to help them maintain good health. How has this been allowed to happen, and why is nothing done about it?
"Main Entrance is filthy"
