"I was satified with the treatment I received and..."

About: Lister Hospital

What I liked

I was treated very well and all the tests and examinations were carried out in professional manor.

What could be improved

1. I was put in the AAU block this does not appear on your hospital plan (from web site).

2. My wife does not drive and arrived by bus and had problem finding where I was. The main entrance is not sign posted and asking people who had NHS badges were not aware of the location of the AAU ward.

3. Unable to find a taxi rank or pick up point when coming away from the AAU (Acute Assessment Unit)

Anything else?

Because of my cardiac history the hospital options was to go to Watford or Lister.

My initial treatment some 4 years ago was carried out at the QEII WGC, 5 miles down the road. If a life is at risk then the closer the Hspital the better.

A good reason to keep the A&E and cardiac units at the QEII if patient care is really a priority.

I was at the hospital about 5 hours before the decision to keep me in over night was made, not a place to go if you are in a hurry to get home but is a problem when using public transport.

Whilst pleased to read your comments in that you felt that the care you received whilst at the Lister was carried out professionally, we felt it equally important to comment back on the remainder of your feedback.

As you may be aware, the Lister hospital is in the middle of being transformed. Not least of these projects has been the building of the new multi-storey car park, which opened last Friday. This has caused huge disruption to the site, making way-finding for patients and their visitors challenging at times.

Now that the new car park is open, we're working on getting all the pedestrian access sorted in terms of improved signage. We'll see what can be done about improved site maps, both for the hospital itself and on our website.

With regards to taxi ranks, there is one by the main bus stop on Coreys Mill Lane and there is a freephone service close to the hospital's main reception area.

With regard to the future location of specialist inpatient and emergency services, these will all be based at the Lister by 2014. If we do not do this, then we will be spreading small teams of staff - along with the budgets that go with them - across two sites, making it impossible to attract the necessary investment to keep them fit for purpose.
