"I hate that I was subjected to this!"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

What I liked

I was given g&a & had bands put around me. Soon my contractions were strong & I told my midwife who previously said I had to have 3 within 5 mins 2 B first stage of labour. She looked at paper from the machine monitoring me via the bands & told me I wasn't having contractions as close together as I was telling her. I was timing them! I was told I was abusing the g&a as I wasn't in labour. The g&a was taken away. I asked my husband to go and find her as I pushed. I was expecting pain relief after telling her I was pushing, but she went to the monitor, looked & told me I wasn't there yet, told me off for slumping down & instructed my hubby to aid her in sitting me up.

What could be improved

As they did this I was pushing & I was disabled from talking. After sitting me up, she left. Once I'd stopped pushing, I slumped back down & asked my husband to get her, saying ‘I'm pushing’ before I had to push again. She entered the room , sat me up & left. I asked my husband to get the midwife, he did & at this point I had to place my hand under a band to lessened the pressure. She returned & I was sat up again, she looked at the print out & told me I wasn't in the first stage of labour. I told her I was holding a band as it was hurting & she told me off & sat me up. She left the room & I asked my husband to bring her back. She returned as I was just finishing pushing. She finally examined me.

Anything else?

I had almost delivered my son's head. 1 more push & I delivered my son's head, 1 more and he was here. The placenta delivery was painful as she jabbed instruments into me, although unecessary as I only took 7 minutes, she was rough with me when I tried to breastfeed. My son born 4.25pm & she left me on the bed even though I had being sick 3 times until 11pm. My complaints response appeared to be a generic letter with a paragraph added to pass as personal. I'm not happy, infact I'm deeply depressed about this. I had faith that they took complaints serious but I was wrong.

We are obviously concerned to note this posting, as the Trust takes complaints extremely seriously. It is not clear whether the response referred to was a formal complaint response; these are certainly not generic and are drafted following appropriately detailed investigations. The Trust, as part of the complaints process, also offers a meeting to every complainant should they wish to discuss the response or if they remain unhappy.

We would welcome the opportunity to address the situation and invite diect contact on 01924 543687 or email pals@midyorks.nhs.uk
