My grandmother was treated appalling by a newly qualified nurse. She was loud/brash and very rude. She practically ripped a very ill 97 year old lady from her bed and into a wheelchair to be moved to another ward. My grandma has a very aggressive brain tumour and wasn't understanding what the nurse was shouting at her, not once did she speak in a low voice, she was shouting - it was 7pm at night and males were visiting other patients and the nurse never drew the curtains for any privacy and everyone was just as shocked as I was. I was devastated!!! I complained to the senior ward sister who conducted an investigation. She spoke with the ported and health care nurse and they both gave a statement. Not 100% what was said but this resulted in me being told that the said nurse would need to under go some more training. And the ward sister said she would have done things much differently. I'm not a complainer but when I tried to interact with the nurse i.e., grandma doesn't understand what you are saying - all she wanted to do was sleep, and I asked if I could put her dressing gown on and give her some dignity as there were men present and she just ignored me. I walked away in tears. I cannot believe how horrible this nurse was and how she treated a dying woman - this nurse has now left some emotional scars for me and my family and "thank god" she didn't pass that night as they would have been some very, very sad, lasting memories! Hope this nurse learns her lesson. Try showing some compassion/kindness and some good manners - surely they don't have to teach a decent human being them qualities!!!!!!!
