My mum telephoned the breast care nurses for support and advice following breast cancer treatment as she had been advised to if she wanted to discuss any concerns. The nurse she spoke to was very dismissive and minimised her concerns and made her feel like she was wasting her time. This is not the first time this has happened when contacted them for support. As a registered mental health nurse I was very disappointed by their attitude and we have sought support elsewhere. My mother was very distressed and upset following the telephone call.

I am grateful that you have contacted us to share details of your mum’s experience. I’m so sorry to hear that your mother and indeed yourself feel let down by the breast service, to such an extent that you felt you had to go elsewhere for advice. Please kindly reiterate my apologies to your mum also. It is even more concerning that this isn’t the first time you have had such an experience.
