"reason for not confiming endoscopy exam"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

after having a well being examination at the nuffeild hospital, it was highlighted that after a rectal probe a polyp was found, and after blood test n featal test blood was found in my samples, it was suggested by the doctor to refer me to bournemouth hospital....i prefferred to see my own doctor first, after an appointment , and more blood tests, he referred me to bournemouth hospital, at the said appointment i was quizzed on why i felt the need for an endoscopic procedure, asked if i had any family history of bowel cancer, or had recently lost any significant weight loss, after explaining , to the doctor , my wellbeing examination , and the suggested concern of a finding of a polyp, he did a rectal examination, it was a far more uncomfortable examination , and seemed more of an imposition on behalf of the doctor, he informed me that he found nothing, untoward, but if i felt the need to have an endoscopic exam he would refer me for one, again i was made to feel i was wasting his time ,i attended the dept and handed my form to the lovely receptionist, and went away confused, and doubting, the whole need for the procedure, after my visit with the bournemouth hospital doctor

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, which appears to have left you somewhat confused about what action to take moving forward.

We would very much like to help clarify the situation so you can make an informed decision about whether or not to have and Endoscopy but in order to do this we would need you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01202 704886 or pals@rbch.nhs.uk and provide them with your hospital number for us to access the correct patient record.

We are sorry to hear you found the manner of the examining doctor to be dismissive as this is not the impression we any of our patients feel or that they are wasting the time of staff.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards

Patient Engagement Team
