"Cleaniness & staff attitude abbysmal."

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

What I liked

Food was OK

What could be improved

The commode could have been emptied of another person's faeces before being presented.

Telephone message could have been relayed in less than 3 hours.

Nurses chatter & laughter could be quieter & would be nice if they could interrupt their social intercourse to attend to patient's needs, preferably without the attitude that a great favour is being bestowed.

Anything else?

Less finance on photographs, artwork & posters recommending handwashing & more on cleaning the filthy toilets, corridors, lifts & wards.

Was not impressed by doctor who shook hand of visitor, whilst wearing surgical gloves then proceeded to carry out examination of patient. with same gloved hands.

We apologise for the state of the commode, this should never have happened. All staff are instructed on how to decontaminate a commode after patient use and all commodes are regularly audited for cleanliness.

All staff are instructed of the importance of hand hygiene - hand hygiene is regularly audited and a compaign to raise awareness and improve compliance has recently been launched by the Trust to ensure that poor practice does not happen.

If you wish to telephone our PALS team on 01253 655588 they will be happy to help.
