My son was admitted to ward 2c in the children's hospital over the weekend and while his healthcare was excellent and the staff looked after us very well, I really have to complain about the temperature of the ward. It was unbearably hot and both my partner and my son felt quite Ill due to the heat. The ward has no air conditioning and none of the windows open. We asked our nurse about air conditioning and we were told that they have no control over the temperature but would call and try and ask someone to sort it, but there was no change. The nurse did manage to get us a fan which we were very grateful for but we were told they weren't allowed many fans due to infection prevention rules. We saw how uncomfortable the nurses looked also, with many of them sweating and trying to cool down by using patient folders as fans. The nurse told us that they had raised the issue of the temperature in the ward to their bosses but nothing had been done. In a state of the art new hospital this seems completely unacceptable, both for children and parents (and staff).
"Unbearably hot"
