"AnE receptionist"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency

The member of staff on your AnE reception desk. Incredibly patronising. I am a woman in my forties who came in last Monday with chest pains. He dismissed me and called me a 'wee young thing' and that it'll be nothing. I had to argue to get to see anyone. I explained to him that my gp is aware of my chest pains and is referring me to the cardiac unit, and in the meantime I'm to go to AnE if I have more problems. He ignored this and looked at me like I was crazy. Being in pain I could've done without this. He then passed me rather abruptly onto the woman next to him. Who by the way was lovely. As are your doctors and nurses. As a woman in pain, I would rather not be called a wee young thing and have to prove myself to him, who is not a doctor!

Dear Ms Georgalide,

I agree that his comment was incredibly inappropriate and patronising, please accept my unreserved apologies for this behaviour, it's not what we expect from our staff. What we do expect is exceptional compassion, professionalism, and respect for our patients, families, carers, staff and visitors and this clearly did not meet that standard.

Please do get in touch if you feel able to do so and thank you for your lovely comments on the doctors, other receptionists and nurses.
