"Lumbar discectomy L4 / L5"

I had an MRI scan which revealed I had a very large herniation of the disc between my L4-L5 vertebra trapping my nerve running down my left leg. I was recommended to visit the Orthopaedics and Spine Specialist Hospital in Peterborough. After reviewing the MRI scan, the consultant, advised me that as my disc herniation was so large it was advisable to have an operation to relieve the pressure on the nerve and free me of pain and that there was a 90% chance of a full recovery. I couldn't have wished to meet a more pleasant and polite person than my consultant and right from the outset he helped me to understand my issue and took his time explaining it to me so that I was clear about everything.

As I am writing now 7 weeks post op, I am pain free...! I have no loss of power in my left leg and have virtually resumed my normal walking routine. I enjoy hiking and am pleased to say that I am quickly recovering my normal walking ability simply by following the advice given to me. And I must stress...sticking to the recovery plan. It works....!!! Prior to my operation the staff at the OSSH were absolutely fantastic. The nursing staff were polite and saw to my every need. After my op I was equally cared for with complete dignity and politeness. I must say I didn't feel like it was a 'hospital' but somewhere that wanted you to succeed. On the day of the operation the Anaesthetists looked after me during my operation and visited me afterwards to see how I was recovering. My experience with the OSSH right from talking to and meeting the pleasant administration staff then during and after my operation right through to my final post op consultation have been amazing...!

I have nothing but good to say about my experience with the OSSH and I sincerely hope that anyone reading my review can feel more confident about their decision to be treated and looked after by this first rate Hospital....
