"Spinal cord stimulator fitted"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Neurology

(as the patient),

Two years ago I had a spinal cord stimulator fitted for severe back and leg pain. I had waited for two years at Oxford for my operation having gone through pre op checks etc. It was supposed to be three month wait. After complaining I was referred to Nottingham were I waited 6 weeks to have my op. How can that be one if the biggest hospitals can do it in two weeks yet my local one I’d waited two years with no sign of having one fitted.

I have nothing but praise for Dr Basu and his medical team, the nurses etc.

Since then I have been back for regular checks and unscheduled visits when I’d screwed up the device. The nurses was so helpful gave me an appointment within two days, sorted me out all with a smile.

I cannot thank everyone enough, it’s made a big difference to my life and just knowing there’s always someone there to help you gives you peace of mind.

In my opinion much better than private treatment at least you get on going care not just have the op then discharged.

One word to describe my experience BRILLIANT.

I’m pleased to hear that your surgery and the aftercare you have received has made such a positive difference. I’ve shared your kind words with Dr Basu and the nurses, we all appreciate them and send our best wishes.

Kind regards

My first experience was being accepted for the surgery especially living in another trust area. So I can’t thank Mr Basu enough for that.

All the ward staff were brilliant and helped me through a difficult week after my surgery. I never got the ladies name one of the ladies that brings meals and drinks round. She was so kind and played a big part to my recovery. I hadn’t been eating and she noticed and came to me to say she’d noticed I hadn’t eaten and what did I fancy. She brought ice cream fruit, yogurts to tempt me into eating. This helped tremendously and I don’t suppose they get much thanks for the hard work they do.

Their observations are so important. Without her input things could have been different.

Then my lovely neuro nurses Michelle and Sally who have been more than marvellous these last two years. Nothing is too much trouble.

The whole experience has been wonderful from start to finish.
