"funding inadequate and very evident"

About: Royal Papworth Hospital (Papworth Everard)

had heart attack thursday and transferred to Papworth from Kings Lynn Saturday for angiogram and stent if required-

Sat evening had artery bleed and kept in overnight = told could go home on sunday and would not qualify for transport ???? live alone on state pension so funds not available for taxi as would cost approx 1 week pension but told by ward sister that my gp would not fund transport.

4 days after heart attack was expected to find my way to North Norfolk by sunday public transport.

I managed to get a lift but if it is considered medically sound for a 68 year old to deal with this situation then at is NOT safe medical practice is it?

Staff were amazing and grey with fatigue and to be honest I know funding is not forthcoming for NHS but surely accepting patients from such a wide area under these conditions is foolhardy and unsafe

Hi there, we are very sorry to hear about your experience. We completely understand that it can be difficult organising a lift from a friend or family member when it is time to go home. Unfortunately, we do not set the eligibility criteria for patient transport and we often have no choice but to ask patients to get a lift home if they are not eligible for transport. Given the high demand for our services at the moment we also have to ensure that we have the capacity to treat other patients who will need to stay in the hospital. However, please accept our apologies and we hope you are recovering well from your heart attack.
