My mother was admitted to the ward via the a and e department.
The care she received was good and caring. I visited every day and on the fourth day my daughter and I went to visit we were told she was to be discharged. This was at 4.30. Apparently we were just waiting for medication from the pharmacy. We had first been told the medication would be ready in two hours, then much later we were told it would be ready in one hour. We were still waiting at 10 pm!
Bearing in mind my mother is nearly 90 years old and has heart failure she was getting very agitated!
I, needless to say, was getting quite angry. I had been waiting 6 hours to take mum home. She lives 45 minutes from the hospital and I had to take her back to an empty house.
In the end we had to leave my mum at the hospital overnight as she was feeling unwell. (And the medication was still nowhere to be seen!) My daughter and I were very distressed at leaving my mum in such a state.
I have no complaint about the nurses or nursing care my mother received but the discharge system needs improvement to say the least.
