"Care and understanding"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a service user),

I accessed A+E on a Saturday afternoon when I became unwell. I was admitted to hospital for observation and tests which confirmed that I had had a stroke, resulting in loss of peripheral vision.

All staff were very pleasant, helpful and reassuring throughout my stay. All very professional.

I understand that clot bursting drugs could have been given earlier in my stay, but priority was given to my high blood pressure.

Some tests will be completed as an outpatient, but it would have been more reassuring to have these tests prior to discharge. I appreciate all the care and understanding I have had from staff. Thank you!

Dear charaxw98,

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide your feedback. What a worrying time this must have been being admitted with stroke and the subsequent impact on your vision.

It is so important that we act fast to try and minimise the impact of the stroke. The clot busting drugs you refer to (thrombolysis) is one of the treatments offered. It is essential this is given not only as quickly as possible but as safely as possible. Blood pressure is important to be treated if high before this treatment is offered to prevent the risk of bleeding. With all this going on it must have been very stressful and I am glad that staff were pleasant, reassuring and professional.

I am delighted you are now at home and I hope you are continuing to make a good recovery. Once secondary prevention is established we aim for patients to get home as soon as possible. It would be great if all investigations could be done immediately. Waiting for any investigations is an anxious time and I hope you get these soon.

The team will be delighted to read your feedback.

Best wishes,

Christine
