My young son fainted and banged his head off the edge of the toilet door. We were able to get an emergency appointment with our local GP Practice (Richmond Practice Bo'ness), where we saw a trainee GP Registrar. She was excellent and thorough with her tests and getting all the relevant information. She kept us completely informed throughout our visit. As a result during our consultation she contacted the local Paediatric Consultant on Call for advice who advised that we take my son to Forth Valley Royal Hospital Paediatric Dept.
On arrival at FVRH we went straight to the ward where my son was assessed further and thoroughly by nursing staff then by the two doctors. We were advised that we would be in hospital till later that afternoon. At all times we were kept fully informed by staff. The Support staff showed my son the toy room and made him welcomed, a very nice touch. Later during the day the staff brought an iPad for my son to use to keep him occupied, this was brilliant as it made time fly for my son. The Kitchen staff getting the meal order and providing the food, nothing was too difficult for a boy with allergies and food intolerances. Later in the afternoon the nursing staff and doctors reassessed my son before discharging us home with advice and numbers.
On reflection I am completely reassured and grateful for the skills of all the NHS staff I have had contact with over this unfortunate incident. It is great to know that the NHS works well, really well. I'd like to thank those who we had contact with over this time for their kindness and professionalism in how they took care of my son.
