"Following emergency admission for irregular..."

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had the unfortunate need to call the emergency services whilst on holiday in Devon. The paramedics were excellent monitoring and explaining they needed to take me to hospital. Once at the hospital the nurses and staff monitored my situation. Doctor gave very clear communication on my medical condition and the effects if left untreated. Gave medication to get my heart back into rhythm and then sent to medical assessment ward. Monitored regularly, chest X-ray, doctor advised about Atrial Fibrillation complications i.e strokes etc and importance of taking medication and side affetcts I was discharged once stable. Despite the fear of what was happening to me I felt the medical care was extremely good, doctors communication was good, nurses and porters provided good level of care and everywhere seemed clean.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and I am sorry that you became unwell during your holiday in Devon.

It is reassuring to know that you received good care and treatment when you arrived at the North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) in the Emergency Department (ED) and the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and were given appropriate medication to get your heart back into rhythm.

This must have been a very anxious time for you and I am pleased that communication was good and you were monitored and able to be discharged once your medical condition became stable. I hope that you were able to recuperate in Devon before returning home.

It is also good to know that the hospital appeared to be clean.

I have forwarded on your kind comments to the Managers of the ED and the MAU where they will be warmly appreciated and shared with staff.

Kind regards

Jayne
