"Never a problem"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Accident and emergency

Born in Carlisle hospital 60 years ago and can honestly say I’ve have always had wonderful treatment there for whatever condition I had had throughout my life.

I have no complaints about any treatment or stay invlolving myself.

However, my one complaint is that patients in bed are trundled through the ground floor atrium to go for x-rays etc,

Being a fairly new build hospital, I think this all should have been planned better, using another lift or corridors encircling the levels to gain access to the relevant services.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices Website. It is lovely to read that you have received good treatment and care throughout your life at the hospital. I can understand your comments about patients being transported through the atrium to attend x-ray etc and the design of hospitals is an evolving process with many of the new builds now being designed with separate corridors for patient movement. Unfortunately twenty years ago when this hospital was being built (it opened in 2000) this was not the case so patients do need to go through the atrium sometimes.

We do ensure that patients going off the wards for investigations are appropriatley dressed or covered and accompanied if required and the porters are very good at moving the patients as comfortably and efficiently as possible.

With kind regards

Georgia Wright, Head of Nursing, Patient Experience & Engagement.
