On Tuesday 24th April, I arrived in mid evening at the Whitworth from Bakewell, in a sorry state after calling and waiting for the ambulance for 50 minutes without success, before being driven by a friend to the Whitworth. We were in the area on a short walking break, I'd slipped and fallen on a muddy slope an hour earlier. All appearances were that I had a broken wrist -I was in shock, on the verge of passing out,in pain and my hand was at a very strange angle.
A local family had helped us at the outset and told us about the Whitworth MIU and to call there on the way to Chesterfield Royal A & E.
The Nursing manager, the female and male nursing staff were professional, efficient and above all, calming, kind, empathetic, positive, and practical. They assessed my injury and gave me sufficient stabilising support for my hand and also pain relief to last me out for the journey to Chesterfield Royal A & E, where I was eventually treated [ it was busy] and I left around 2.30 a.m on Wednesday
Without the excellent and prompt first response from the Whitworth, I would have been in much poorer shape.
Now back in London, I am having surgery for a break in my radius bone-tomorrow. Many thanks for your response, Whitworth staff on duty .You made all the difference to a harrowing time!
