I had to drive over 75 miles to my nearest sleep clinic here at King's Mill Hospital, for a 10 minute appointment in which the unbelievably basic operation of the sleep apnoea test machine was explained to me. The reception staff weren't at all polite. The nurse conducting the instruction was incredibly nice, however wasn't particularly well informed. I then had to drive back again the next day to drop off the unit. The hospital has no facility to return this other than via hand, meaning another 6 hour round trip, something very difficult for one suffering extreme fatigue, not to mention the cost of time off work, petrol, extortionate NHS parking charges. We have a perfectly good postal system in the UK for this exact purpose, however the sleep clinic belligerently refuses to use it. I asked where I could make a complaint/suggestions to and was more or less fobbed off without an answer.
I was told results would be sent out in two weeks. Three weeks later after no results, I rang the hospital and left a message and my number for them to call me back. They did not do so. Four weeks later, I finally got through to a human who told me, completely unapologetically that they had a back log and that my results were being typed up. I haven't received my results yet so can not comment on the results of the awful service.
"Sleep clinic badly organised and run"
