"Fracture clinic appointment"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

My wife attended an appointment at DRI Hospital today. On arrival at the clinic we were told to take a seat in the waiting area . We were on time and after a while we noticed on the video information screen that it said appointments were running late by up to 1hr. After about 80 mins past the appointment time we asked a passing nurse(?) if she could give us any information, and she replied that my wife had been called several times already, neither we or the couple next to us had heard any of this. I firmly believe that she was not called due to a slip up with the paperwork/system of appointment times and the relevant staff had got their heads together to cover this up.

Also I think it to be a ridiculous situation when after spending 3 days in Bassetlaw Hospital she is given an appointment to attend DRI Hospital ( because the consultant does not hold his clinic at Bassetlaw Hospital) only to be seen by another doctor for about 3 mins, surely this could have been done at Bassetlaw.

We are very sorry to hear that you have had to wait such a long time for your appointment this morning and the confusion as to whether you had been called or not.

We do deliver clinics at Bassetlaw, Doncaster and Mexborough and there are times when we ask patients to travel, in order that they are seen by their Consultant team. However, we also do try to facilitate patients being seen locally where this is possible in order to minimise the level of travel.

If you would like to send me your details, through our patient experience team, we will be very happy to look into the issues you have raised, please contact Freephone 0800 028 8059 or by e-mail: dbth.pals.dbh@nhs.net.

Once again, apologies for your long wait and any inconvenience this caused for you and your wife.
