"Still waiting"

Suffering with depression and anxiety since August 2017 i finally built up enough courage to engage in counselling mid December 2017. After being advised by my GP to try Insight i made an online referral and waited for a call back. After not hearing anything for 3 weeks, i followed up my online referral with a call. I was promptly booked in for an assessment telephone call on the Friday before Christmas. On completion of my assessment call i was advised of the treatment i would receive and then told i would be contacted when an appointment became available. After waiting for over 8 weeks i decided to follow up with a phone call to be told that there is somewhere between 10-16 week wait to enter treatment. I am now 18 weeks post assessment and still have not heard anything about my treatment. It's disgusting how there can be so little information given and no realistic expectations. Whilst i appreciate how pressurised the NHS in general is and especially the mental health service, it's so dangerous to leave vulnerable and distressed patients on a waiting list, with little or no contact.

Insight Healthcare are very sorry for the inconvenience and the long wait you have experienced to access our services as well as the additional distress to you. In our service it is unfortunately difficult to give precise waiting times, which are dependent on many factors, including the number of clients referring in, clients being discharged due to cancellation/completion of treatment and our client’s personal availability/flexibility for appointments.

In response to increase in referrals, we have recently taken on 10 new members to our clinical team to improve our therapy resource and also are improving our contact with clients waiting for therapy as well as giving a more realistic expectation to people at point of referral and post assessment.

We do take all concerns seriously and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you in more detail about your experience. If you would kindly contact the service on 0300 555 5555, or via email at admin.kent@insighthealthcare.org, our senior team would be pleased to discuss it with you further.
