"Bulphan Ward Terrible Communication"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My Aunt was admitted to Bulphan Ward 2 weeks ago, vomiting black with severe diarrhoea. Only information provided by nurses was camera's were to be used for investigation. During this time my Aunt started to see people and hallucinate in hospital. No explanation was given by the ward at all even though family kept asking what was wrong. Then all of a sudden last Friday was told she was being discharged home. No explanation of what has caused the vomiting just that she would get an appointment in a few weeks time for the result. No mention of the cause of confusion or hallucinations and action that would be taken. The discharge nurse was extremely abrupt and complaining about me when i said i would not accept her home until her health was assessed and reviewed. I see this as a contravention of the duty of care the hospital has for my aunt and have had to call the consultant directly to arrange an appointment to see him. Still awaiting return call. Its becoming obvious when someone reaches a certain age the NHS writes them off and it should be careful as not to be considered ageist in this day and age. I recommend this ward receive customer service training and communication training as it is lacking in both.
