"HCPs didn't even look at my friend or showed..."

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency

Early Friday at 1:30, I accompanied my friend to A&E at the LGI because she was experiencing severe pain in her pelvic/back region. It has been more than 4 days where her symptoms of a possible UTI started showing but the pain got really bad that night so we had to go to A&E. Around 1.5hrs of wait, a nurse saw her and did her dops and didn't ask her much about her symptoms or previous medical history. After seeing the nurse, we waited for another 2 hrs then found the waiting time to see a dr changed from 4 to 6 hrs. At one point, a man who seemed drunk was talking out loud, commenting and offending people and even though there were police in the waiting room, they did confront him to stop but after as he continued, they just ignored him and the other people waiting there were obviously still very uncomfortable with him. It's now 07:00 am in the morning now, and my friend at this point was so tired and still in so much pain debated where to go home and rest as the chairs weren't the most comfortable. As her pain worsened, we asked for painkillers to help her but the dr./nurses didn't even look at my friend of how much in pain she was and just based off what I've told them about what she experiencing dispensed some codeine. As I am a 2nd medic myself and understand somewhat of a dr-pt relationship, to see how they've treated her was quite ridiculous. After taking the codeine and my friend in tears of not only the pain but how the HCPs treated her, we thought of going home but the HCPs recommended to wait till 8:00 when more dr. come so she could be seen quicker. We waited till 8:00 where after she screamed in pain, a dr. finally came to see her. The dr. didn't even introduce himself and was very rude and paternalistic in tone, telling to "calm down or I can't do a proper assessment to you!". He did his assessment as she was shouting in agony and told her it was inconclusive as she kept shifting her answers on where her pain was. She was so taken aback by him that she didn't even want him to take her bloods. He then gave her some oral morphine which helped calm her down later but she later didn't tolerate it well, vomitted, felt faint and her eyes were swelling. After taking the bloods, the dr. then talked to me to ask about her symptoms and when I told him I was a medic, it was clear he was guilty of how he acted towards my friend where he tried to apologise to her for his behaviour. In between, when my friend was puking in the toilet a nurse asked for her name then followed by saying "just puke in the toilet bowl". After the bloods results were finally out, the doctor said everything looked normal and didn't give her any advice on pain relief on what to do next where it was obvious they just wanted her out asap. It was not only such a terrible experience to see a friend go through but as a medic to see hcps treat a pt like this is very worrying. I hope the LGI can learn reflect on this inhumane treatment to my friend and I, who has suffered so muc
