I was diagnosed with breast cancer in late October from a routine mammogram and my subsequent follow-ups, operation and treatment have been superb and in addition met all the Government targets.
I had a wide local excision and three lymph nodes removed and was allowed home the same evening.
The lymph node wound took many weeks to clear up, and during this period my Consultant saw me on a weekly basis to check progress.
He was always courteous, professional and ready to respond to my many questions, never giving the impression that he was hurrying me.
The whole Team of multi- disciplinary professionals worked well together and the co-ordination was seamless; this included when I needed to see the GP urgently one day.
I was kept informed of exactly what was happening and received copies of letters sent to my GP.
My whole experience as a patient was fantastic from a medical point of view.
It was obvious when I came in for my operation that staff were struggling to find sufficient beds and that severe overcrowding on the wards was an issue.
