"Biospy of the prostate"

About: Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust

I had a prostate biopsy on 24th January 2017 following which I had a 3-monthly blood tests which revealed that my PSA was increasing again. Following a blood test on 13th February 2018, I had an appointment with a consultant in D11 on 28th February who advised that I have another biopsy as there was a part of my MRI scan which was indeterminate and he wanted to concentrate on that part of the prostate to be sure that there was no cancer in that area. I had the biopsy on 18th April.

From the letter giving me the appointment, to the pre-op in B39 on 12th March, to the admission suite in B32 on 18th April, to the biopsy, and recovery in B42, my treatment by the nurses, anaesthetist and consultant was superb. I was given clear instructions prior to my operation. The anaesthetist and consultant explained the procedure in detail, I was well cared for after the operation and was given a leaflet giving advice following general anaesthetic, specific advice following surgery and action to take should I need it after leaving the hospital. I was also told that a follow-up appointment would be forthcoming in 2.5 to 3 weeks. Although this may have been routine for the RUH it gave me great confidence and peace of mind regarding my treatment. THANK YOU.

We thank you for your comments about your recent care at the RUH and will forward these on to the teams in pre-op, the admission suite and recovery who, we are sure, will be very grateful for your kind words.
