I came in to the Birth Centre for an examination when I was 14 hours in to the latent phase of labour. The midwife on duty examined me and, though my water had broken, my cervix was still quite long. She sent me home which, even though I was really uncomfortable, I understood - but booked me in for an induction due to the waters being broken. Overnight my labour didn't progress, but the pain was bad enough to keep me awake, so by this time I was getting exhausted, having missed 2 nights' sleep.
I returned to the birth centre at 2am, and there the staff really looked after myself and my husband: I was administered pain relief (diamorphine) so I could sleep, and they set us up in a bed. I was so happy to have been allowed to stay, because I really wasn't coping at home, and so relieved to be able to get a couple of hours sleep, all with the reassurance that there were medical professionals around. We were then transferred to the antenatal ward for induction, and have again felt really well looked after: 10/10
