"Poor communication and bad attitude"

About: Sheffield Children's Hospital

(as a relative),

I brought my daughter to the day care department at Sheffield Childrens Hospital for an appointment to have her bladder examined. We arrived in time for the appointment, and we were told to sit and wait by the receptionist. An hour passed with no more information about what was going on, at which point the receptionist asked why my daughter hadn't been drinking any water.

It turns out that she couldn't be examined until she had a full bladder, and so was supposed to have been drinking water whilst waiting - but nobody told us this! We were just told to sit and wait by the receptionist, who then told us that we'd have to wait longer as the doctor couldn't see my daughter until her bladder was full. We were still waiting to be seen over two hours after the original appointment time.

Not only did the receptionist fail to keep us informed, but I found their attitude terrible. In my opinion, the way they spoke to us was unacceptable - and I felt they behaved in a way which was very uncaring and unsympathetic. They didn't even admit their mistake, let alone apologise for it.

I'm not a doctor so I need to be informed about what's going on, not left out of the loop and treated by staff who I felt had a very poor attitude.
