"Hysterectomy for endometrial cancer"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 309 recently for a hysterectomy and on admission felt anxious and stressed as was first on the list and was initially swamped with doctors and nurses.

However the whole team led by Dr Swathy soon put me at ease and were extremely professional and caring from admission to discharge. Everything was explained thoroughly by Dr Swathy and the anaesthetist Dr Kumar who were both very clear and precise taking time to explain the procedure.

Afterwards the nursing staff, in particular Morag and Gail (night nurse) were so kind and caring, patient and nothing was too much trouble. Everything they did was clearly explained and I only had to ring my buzzer once when one of my 3 overhanging infusions started beeping.

The food served was very good and my water jug filled regularly with iced water. My every last need was attended to and what was quite an anxious and frightening experience turned out so much better than I had dared hope for. Bless the NHS! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Leanne4

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in ward 309 on Care Opinion. Our aim is to admit patients on the day of surgery but I appreciate it can be overwhelming being first on the theatre list with doctors and nurses all carrying out their part in the admission process as soon as you arrive on the ward.

I am pleased to hear that you were soon put at ease by the team who showed professionalism and caring from admission to discharge. I have already shared your appreciation with Dr Swathy and Dr Kumar as well as nurses Morag and Gail. They were all delighted you found the care they delivered was better that you would ever have hoped for.

Your thanks are very much appreciated and I hope your recovery is going well.

Kind regards

Margaret Meredith, Nurse Manager.
