"Diagnosing premenstrual dysphoric disorder"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I attended a long awaited appointment to see a Gynocologist. I thought I would be understood, how wrong was I,  I was met with patronising responses and almost a smirk not a empathetic smile.

I described my symptoms, which I've suffered from for 40 years every month.

I was offered nothing except the word depression. It doesn't take a Doctor to know the difference between PMDD and depression. I was not offered blood test to check my hormone balance, scan, even a simple pregnancy test to rule the obvious out from the outset.

I was upset, annoyed and left the clinic and said I was wasting my time. So I'm still none the wiser, I'm still suffering and my bloated stomach is not a sign of depression. I am NOT depressed. This is hormone related!

Update posted by PMDD (the patient)

Thank you for your response, to be honest after my experience I wasn't expecting a response. So I'm extremely grateful that I'm being taken seriously. There was a little more to my experience that day, but I covered the gist of it.

I will be in touch soon.
