Last Friday I under went intense Breast Surgery at the Fitzwilliam hospital, and after having heard great things about the hospital unfortunately I was very disappointed with the care and treatment that I received.
There are a few key areas that I would like to address as being particularly stressful on my part.
- being left in bloody night gown for almost my entire stay (2 nights, 3 days)
- being left in bloody bed sheets for the entire duration of my stay (2 nights, 3 days)
- urine sample in open pot asked for by the nurse upon my arrival (Friday am) and despite being told it was there several times, wasn't collected until Sunday morning.
- helped too the toilet, but nurse would leave the room and not help me return to my bed.
- being made to feel disbelieved by one particular nurse when explaining how much pain I was in post surgery, as she said 'the tablets should be working' even though I was explaining they were not helping with my pain.
- I was given an injection in my stomach very late at night, without an explanation as too what it was for - this left me frightened
- when discharged, I was not given clear instruction of how / when to take my medication. I was also not told when my follow up appointments would be, I had to query both myself. I was not provided with any spare dressing for my surgery (which was for my breasts) and the dressing I was provided on Friday post surgery has now come loose and dirty but I have to wait until Friday to re-dress it, as it was a very particular type of dressing required.
- Finally, I was not given a final check (as in my breasts were not checked at all) upon my discharge.
I have so many unanswered questions, I was made to feel like a nuisance and was left feeling dirty and in pain which for paying over £8,000 for surgery is not what I expect at all.
I would really appreciate if someone could reach out to me about my concerns. I have photographic evidence if required.
