"Middle age administration"

About: Langstone Way Surgery

This surgery apparently is decades behind in administration and communications. They keep most of the appointments as 'emergency appointments' and only release them at 08:00AM for the same-day so that patients have to go there twice, first time in a queue early morning, like former soviet union!

They don't bother about the patients' waste of time and inconvenience for doing so. Patients' time is worthless to them

I complained about this in person, but they say they do this because patient do not attend the bookings they make by phone or online. This means that they are punishing all patients because some may not use their booked appointments! The surgery could simply ban such patients (the ones missing bookings) from their advanced booking system and ask them to come on the day, but not everybody! This is a simple admin task that they are not able to do and impose so much inconvenience to the patients. The front-office manager rudely ignored my proposal and said that's how they work and I can go somewhere else!

I am sorry that you find our appointments system problematic. We keep the appointments system under constant review and have considered alternative methods of booking appointments in the past and are currently considering another system, as we would like to improve the booking system if we can. However, to date we have found the current method to be the most effective. You do not however have to come and queue up in person in the morning and can of course make an appointment over the phone, if you prefer. We do however offer out appointments on a first come, first served basis at present, so some people simply prefer to come in person first thing in the morning and queue up, in the hope that this will give them the best chance of booking an appointment. Patients' time is valuable to us and we use our current system in order to try to avoid wasitng it. We have many patients who simply do not attend pre-booked appointments, so those appointments are then wasted, when other patients could have been using them. Patients booking a same day appointment are more likely to attend, so this does currently seem to be the best way of avoiding wasting both patients' and doctors' time, so the current system ensures that as few appointments are wasted as possible. I hope you will understand that we are doing our best to provide as good a service as we are able to all our patients in these difficult times and will continue to look at alternatives that may be better, as time goes on.
