"Experience in A &E"

About: Sandwell General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

This is not about waiting times even though they were horrendous (7 hours) it is about the attitude of some nurses who were on duty at 6am when we arrived in the bedded area of A&E ; the staff in question went off duty at 7am - 7.30 and after that time the change in atmosphere was dramatic . The staff in question moaned constantly about fellow colleagues , moaned about patients who kept querying waiting times and talked about what shifts they were doing - all within earshot of patients. If as much energy had gone into getting patients seen then I am sure waiting times would have been less.

In direct contrast nurses coming on duty at 7am were professional and efficient at getting patients seen in very trying circumstances as were the brilliant doctors who came on duty.

It is hard working in the Nhs I should know as i do too but staff should never forget we are here  to serve patients and they have every right to be treated with dignity and respect and to expect professional staff

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry about the long wait and the lack of professionalism you experienced in the emergency department. This is unacceptable and I will pass on your comments to the Matron of the department so she address this with the teams. I hope you have now recovered and I wish you well. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
