About: Freeman Hospital

What I liked

Absolutley fantastic staff throughout all levels and departments. All so freindly and amenable,They all treated my son like he was the only patient in there .myself and my wife cannot ptaise them enough for their personal touch which goes far beyond their job spec.It has made his period of confinement easier for us all to bear.

What could be improved

We do not believe there are sufficent disabled parking spaces for long stay patients and this places extra stress on hospital visits which are already very stressful.there are a lot of spaces for able bodied people that would find it easier to use more remote parking facilities or other forms of transport to hospital.also the television and internet charges for long stay patients could be more friendly and better structured as most long term patients are on restrictive budgets whilst going through treatment and could do without this extra burden. In most cases they are a captive audience and rely on the TV as their sole source of entertainment to help them through their long days of confinement.i await your comments with interest

cheers

Thank you for your kind comments in respect of the service you experienced within the haematology department at the Freeman Hospital. As an organisation we aspire to the highest standards at all times and are delighted to get such feedback. Your comments have been passed onto the Department involved, who will be encouraged by your kind remarks.

May we apologise that you felt the facilities for disabled car parking and bedside entertainment fell below the standard expected. In respect of your comments regarding the bedside entertainment system. This service is provided under contract by a private company, Hospedia – you can find further details of their services on their website www.hospedia.co.uk. For your information, Hospedia have made concessions for certain patient groups, for example children and long-stay patients and we continue to work with the company to try to improve the services available for our patients. The Trust now allows limited use of mobile telephones and has WiFi access available via personal devices independent of the Hospedia system.

The Trust has invested in significant improvements over recent years to provide improvements to disabled parking on the Freeman Hospital site. This now includes a refurbished area located outside of the Cardiothoracic Centre and additional blue badge spaces near to the entrance of the Northern Centre for Cancer and Renal Services entrance at the rear of the main hospital building. Therefore there are a number of options from which to access disabled parking and an increased provision, though we do appreciate that some of these areas may not be the most direct route for the department you are visiting. If visitors are unable to find a disabled parking space in the Freeman Hospital main car park or the areas mentioned above, you can contact a member of the security team for advice. Parking is available in the main car park at the standard rate.
