"Baby immunisation"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a relative),

Nurse who gave babys 1 st Immunisations had heavily painted fingernails. Also gave oral live vaccine with no gloves. Left feeling how clean were her hands and nails. Dress code and infection control dictates this shouldnt be allowed

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch on Care Opinion.

I completely understand your concerns about cleanliness and dress code. We (as parents and family members) take a lot of care to keep our babies clean and free from infection and it wouldn't have been nice to feel that the nurse you saw wasn't taking this as seriously as they should have been.

I would like to pass this to the GP Practice you attended for them to address with staff, but GP Practices aren’t notified automatically about stories on Care Opinion. If you would like me contact them, could you contact me by email (kirsten.dickson@nhs.net) or telephone (01224 558404)?

Take care,

Kirsten

Dear Taurusyw93,

Having spoken to the Operational Lead Nurse for Children and Families in your area I can now share the update below:

'I can confirm that your story has been shared with the health visiting team leader for the clinic you attended. We are sorry that the nurse who was immunising that day was wearing nail vanish and hadn’t worn gloves. This shouldn’t have happened as all the nurses who immunise do attend training including hand hygiene. However, your story has highlighted an improvement we need to make and we can assure you that this has been addressed within the team.

All feedback is vital for us to make improvements – thanks again for sharing.'
