I find it inappropriate to be asked by reception for details of my medical issue in deciding whether or not i can be offered a same day GP appointment. "Is it an emergency?" is a popular question; I would imagine if it was an emergency, A&E would be my port of call and not the GP surgery. Bottom line is, you can forget about same day appointments unless you are prepared to put on a melodramatic display.
I think the surgery could also do with some Mental health awareness training as I was shocked when a GP at the practice told me I had "wasted an appointment someone else should have had" because I had come in with
stress related issues. Apparently, stress and anxiety are not medical grounds for an appointment and I should have waited until it evolved into full blown depression. No empathy shown, not signposted for help elsewhwere, spoken to disrespectfully, I left the surgery feelibg suicidal. An initial complaint letter was responded to with complete denial and distortion of facts. A second letter involving an advocate service received a mock attempt at apology, lacking in sincerity and obviously more keen on not implicating themselves in writing. Shocking and shameful.
Have since changed my GP.
