"I felt in safe hands confident of a successful..."

About: Airedale General Hospital

What I liked

My care from my outpatient appointment with the Consultant to the preoperative clinic, my admission, surgery and after care was excellent. I was fully informed of my problem and the options for treatment. The preoperative clinic staff explained the details of the surgery and after care, providing me with excellent written material.

I was welcomed and put at my ease on Ward 20. The Consultant reviewed my choice of surgery. The Anaesthetist explained the general anaesthetic and the caudal block I would receive.

Arriving in Theatre again everything was explained and having been an anaesthetic sister in the 1970s I was impressed with the new technology and how pain free the whole procedure was.

On awaking in recovery again free from pain I was reassured that the operation had been successful. The staff on Ward 19 settled me in and at 5pm I was eating a meal which was delicious.

I spent a comfortable night with the night staff monitoring my condition and tending to my needs with compassion and sensitivity.

My stay continued to be comfortable with good communication from Medical, Nursing staff and physiotherapist. Though out my stay I was treated with respect and dignity, everyone was friendly and helpful. As a retired nurse I was pleased to see all the staff were efficient and competent; my last speciality being in infection prevent I was reassured to see standards of cleanliness were high and everyone followed meticulous hand hygiene

At a time when the NHS is receiving a bad press I have no hesitation in recommending Airedale General as a Hospital where you can expect excellent care from dedicated staff of all disciplines.
