I have been ill now with not much respite for well over a year now.
I have been getting regular chest infections which came to a head last Easter ( 2017 ) I was very ill for about 2 months.
I went to Hairmyres for help , was looked at briefly, then left for hours, then sent home and told I would get sent back for a scan.
I got said scan a couple of months later and nothing showed up.
I continued to feel ill, breathless, bringing up mucus constantly, being woken in the night with my breathing very eratic.
I was back at work by this time ,but struggled with it , and continued to get chest infections.
Just before Christmas I took very ill again, trouble with breathing , wheezing, high temp, uncontrollable shaking. My partner thought I had Pneumonia.
I went back to Hairmyres where this time I was admitted and kept in for 5 days , I was well cared for , given chest xray and CT scan while I was in. After 5 days a diagnosis of Pleurisy was reached, but not sure if they were certain.
I was discharged with antibiotics that were meant to clear it, but this did not happen and I ended up going back up at New Year where I was kept in A&E all night , told I would be kept in , but let out next morning as there was no beds available. I was given more Antibiotics which have done nothing.
I went back a few weeks ago seeking help as my own doctor seems a bit baffled by my condition. I was given an ECG which was ok,
had my chest sounded then sent home. They said they would write to my own Doctor about follow up appointment at Respiratory clinic, I was told that at New Year as well but have heard nothing.
I am still off work .
I am male , 56 years old , was a keen cyclist/ walker/ runner , until this stopped me in my tracks. I stopped drinking and smoking about 13 years ago.
I just want someone at Hairmyres to give me a proper diagnosis, I would have thought that wouldn't be too much trouble.
I'm very sorry my letter is very long , but writting all this down helps , and if it reaches someone who can help me I would be over the moon.
I just want to get back to some sort of normality. My life has stopped. I had a very active life before taking ill.
Thank you
Yours faithfully
"Hanging about for over a year."
