"Dignity and professionalism at prostate biopsy"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Urology

(as the patient),

In March this year I attended the Nottingham City Hospital Urology Centre for a prostate biopsy.

Prior to the proceedings I was spoken to by Andy who carefully explained the procedure and answered any of my questions. His approach went a long way towards reducing my anxiety.

He then conducted the biopsy with the assistance of Anita in a very skilled manner. He was very gentle and the worst description that I could apply would be discomfort as opposed to pain. Anita's participation was invaluable. She obviously had a good idea of what support was needed and when. She said just the right things to help.

Both Anita and Andy afforded me great dignity throughout - not easy considering the circumstances. I feel that praise should be given to them by your department.

I am very grateful to them for their professionalism and I would like you to be aware of what an asset they both are to the centre.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. We are really grateful that you have done so and we hope it will help to reassure others who may feel anxious about coming into hospital for this procedure. I’m pleased that you felt informed and well looked-after throughout thanks to Andy and Anita. I’ll share your kind words with them and my colleagues in the wider department.

Best wishes
