"Sigmoidoscopy"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

The nursing staff in the endoscopy suite were very kind.

However I was appalled by the way I felt humiliated whilst waiting for my procedure.

I was advised by the registrar at the initial examination that I would need sedation therefore I arranged for someone to drive me to and from the hospital.

I was then asked on arrival if I wanted sedation or gas and air and as I had been previously advised sedation opted for sedation.

Whilst waiting for the procedure in an ante room I heard a very loud male voice telling another man that I wanted sedation in a derogatory manner (making fun of my choice).

When I went into the procedure room the consultant asked again why I wanted sedation and I explained why but as he said 95% of his patients opt for gas and air therefore I said OK I would have gas and air.

Afterwards he said "you see you didn't need sedation did you"?

This all made me feel very small and upset and I felt it was very unprofessional.
