"Dri AnE 7+hours waiting"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I addimited my self after cutting my palm fairley badly and not being able to move fingers, on arrival the staff just stared and continued with conversation until a nurse finally bandaged my hand up to prevent more blood being on the floor, on her notes she had wrote it was small laceration, not the fact I had cut with glass and couldn’t move or bend any fingers, after 5 hours waiting and only 3 people waiting to be seen I asked how long I’d be and was told I was next one in, this was not the case the three other patients got seen first and one only being there with a tiny cut on his nose from a work injury’s and even stated he’d come to get out of work and was seen in 3hrs, so 7 and half hours later morning was coming I was a little angry and asked again and threated with making a complaint, as all that night shift I sat and watched the staff on the desk play on their phones make comments on patients and even missed the fact that an addict had gotten in the toilet on my arrival and managed to stay there till morning! What if he’d of taken an overdose?? Anyway I finally got seen by a dr who was actually lovely and was a little shocked that if waited so long and not been sent for X-ray or even had the wound cleaned and the fact it’d taken so long as I could of been loosing my finger as the tendons were torn! Basically I think the staff at this hospital need more training and basic respect and care for patients, instead seeing fit that they play on phones flirt with security who didn’t do anything other than walk around talking about boxing! Maybe then they would of noticed the Homeless man sat at the back and the addict having a nice sleep in toilets! Disgusting hospital and disgusting staff 4.4.18 11.50 pm arrival

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Emergency Department at DRI. I was very sorry to hear that you had such a long wait in the Department.

I apologise for the attitude of some members of staff, this is not the standard we expect for our patients. We would appreciate if we could speak to you in more detail about your experience, if you feel this would be useful please contact the Trust’s Patient Experience Team on Freephone 0800 028 8059 or by e-mail: dbth.pals.dbh@nhs.net.

Thank you again for sharing your views on NHS Choices.
