"A complete lack of care when I most needed it"

About: The Lawson Practice

I have been registered at The Lawson Practice for 6 years, only needing an appointment occasionally.

They insist on giving you an allocated doctor, which should be good for continuity. However if your doctor if on holiday/ extended leave / sick leave they will not allow you to make an appointment with another doctor, making it very difficult to be seen for extended periods of time.

When I was pregnant and having lots of health problems for the first time they discharged me from the practice register without telling me due to a temporary change of address. This left me with no GP at a time when I really needed it. WhenI complained they were extremely slow at responding, showed no respect or acknowledgement of the problems they were causing and refused to re-register, even though the dcotr had recommended that I should stay registered until I had chance to register elsewhere.

Overall I am left t=with the impression of a complete lack of care and The Lawson Practice prioritising their whims over the safety and care of patients.

We are sorry to hear that you were removed from the list due to a temporary change of address. We would normally make exceptions for temporary address changes if the address change is only a month or two. Sometimes patients are removed without our knowledge due to the NHS system picking up different addresses. If you were at a temporary address outside our practice area and were going to be there for some time then we would have asked you to register with a new practice locally because of the need to ensure you had appropriate midwife and health visiting support. This policy is to ensure your health and your babies health is being supported in the best way. We realise it is upsetting when you can't stay with a doctor due to a move in address but GP practices do work within practice areas ensuring that people living locally can access a GP locally and also so that other services like midwives, community nurses and health visitors who work closely with practices can support you.
