On the 21st March, following a stupid slip in Moor Park - my wife drove me to Royal Preston. Within half-an-hour I had been seen by a Nurse, X-Ray'd and was receiving the initial treatment. I was anaesthetised, and my dislocated ankle was relocated, the 3 broken bones were set in temporary plaster - and within 4 hours of arriving I was in the Major Trauma Ward.
The following morning I was seen by a Consultant and the Anaesthetist, subjected to an Epidural, put to sleep and had my bones reset - together with 3 plates. Throughout the whole process - the team were extremely pleasant and professional.
The next 5 days were a whirl of various treatments - medication, pain-killers, laxatives, catheter, endoscope (as I tore something in my Esophagus whilst being sick), various drips, etc. Once again the nursing staff and the medical teams were BRILLIANT !! Nothing was too much trouble and the care was administered with feeling and empathy.
I was discharged on the 27th March - having proved to the Physio and Occupational Therapist that I could function reasonably with crutches and a zimmer frame.
I returned on the 6th of April - to have my leg X-ray'd, the 40 or so staples removed (OUCH !!) and another non-load-bearing cast fitted - for a further 4 weeks.
Hopefully within a few more weeks I won't be doing impressions of Skippy ??
In these days of Financial cuts within the NHS - I couldn't have received any more care, consideration and attention than I did - THANK YOU TO EVERYONE !!
"VERY, VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE CARE RECEIVED !!"
