Having recently posted a review regarding the emergency admission of my very dear elderly friend I find myself returning to write a further review. A recent service set up to assist patients getting home following discharge from hospital is being provided by a team of staff from the British Red Cross. This service is giving additional support to the already overstretched NHS transport service. It was decided this morning that my friend should be discharged back to her 24 hour residential care home. Having become aware of this new home from hospital service I requested this for my friend. I spoke with a clerical member of staff on the ward and she immediately stated she would phone the Red Cross office. In no time at all a member of that team visited the ward and liaised with ward staff, assessed my friends needs and made all arrangements to transport her back home with speed and efficiency. My friend travelled home in comfort by car with one on one support and enjoyed a very pleasant and comfortable journey. An absolutely excellent service that should be encouraged and promoted. What an excellent idea implementing something so worthwhile. Long may it last.
Thank you to all involved in providing this assistance.
